Manado, N Sulawesi (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is set to visit the northernmost Indonesian island of Miangas on Wednesday as part of his working visit in North Sulawesi province.
President Jokowi, accompanied by First Lady Iriana Jokowi and Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi will inaugurate Miangas airport in the island bordering the Philippines.
The construction of the airport which began in 2012 is designed to serve as defense and security infrastructure as well as to distribute food among residents of the island located 48 miles from neighboring Philippines.
The airport has a 1,200-meter runway.
While in the island, the president will also meet with local residents. (WDY)
