Jakarta (Antara Bali) - German Ambassador in Indonesia Norbert Baas said batik is an Indonesian living heritage which has A good prospective and bright future in the international fashion industry.
The statement made in opening of a Indonesian Batik exhibition "A Living Heritage" at the Indonesian National Gallery, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
"Batik production can be more important than the fashion industry in Germany and Indonesia," said Baas.
He further said Germany will cooperate with Indonesia to bring Batik more globally by delivering high technology and methods in producing high quality batiks.
According to data, two thousands Indonesian students are studying in Germany and they have a big influence of in batik promotion in Germany and Europe.
"Moreover, in Europe, Indonesia is recognized as a big factor in ASEAN and very promising in the future. Therefore, that is a good chance to promote Indonesia through its cultures, especially batik which is considered as a World Heritage by UNESCO," he said.
In the meantime, Deputy Managing Director of the German-Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (EKONID) Martin Krummeck said basically EKONID has already started clean batik production which with the encouragement of Indonesian batik producers and artists in using environmental processing.(IGT/T007)
