Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott is scheduled to visit Indonesia soon after he is inaugurated as prime minister succeeding Kevin Rudd, according to Presidential Staff for International Relations Teuku Faizasyah.
Teuku Faizasyah told the press here on Friday that Abbott's visit to Indonesia would be his first foreign tour following his inauguration as prime minister on September 18, 2013.
Abbott visited Indonesia in October 2012 as opposition leader of the Australian parliament.
"In the bilateral meeting, the Indonesian President and Australian Prime Minister will discuss priority issues based upon the framework of their comprehensive partnership, including, among other things, economic and socio-cultural cooperation and people-to-people contacts," he said.
Also, the two leaders will exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual concern, such as cooperation during the East Asia Summit, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), G20 and the United Nations, according to Faizasyah.
He noted that the visit of the Australian Prime Minister would boost cooperation between the two countries.
Faizasyah said Abbott's decision to first visit Indonesia reflected the new prime minister's spirit to continue, and reinforce, cooperation between the two countries, and Indonesia appreciated this move. (*/DWA)
