Bitung (Antara Bali) - An Indian training sailing vessel, INS Sudarshini, anchored in the Bitung waters, North Sulawesi on Saturday, during a visit to commemorate the relationship between India and ASEAN.
The ship's 31 crew members and captain, Sam Sundar, were welcomed by Head of the Bitung Tourism Office Benny Lontoh and some local administration officials.
The local officials also had opportunity to board the Indian vessel and following that, invited the captain and the crew members to the administration office to meet the Deputy Major of Bitung Maximilian J. Lomban.
Captain Sam Sundar thanked the people of Bitung for their hospitality and said, "We saw the Bitung and Lembeh Islands firsthand. They were very clean and beautiful."
The Deputy Major of Bitung received the Indian vessel's crew members and captain at his office.
On the occasion, Lomban also presented an overview of Bitung's profile and its position in the region. "The Government of Indonesia has declared Bitung as the gate of Asia-Pacific," Lomban said. (IGT/T007)
