Tangerang, Banten (Antara Bali) - The Soekarno-Hatta International Airport's customs and excise officers have managed to foil 18 attempts to smuggle 37,662 grams of methamphetamine and 60 grams of ketamine into Indonesia during the past four months.
The smugglers comprised 18 Indonesian nationals, three Chinese citizens, three Hong Kong citizens, two Kenyan citizens, and two Nigerian citizens, Head of the Soekarno-Hatta's Customs and Excise Office Okto Irianto stated here on Friday.
The 28 people were arrested and handed over to the police and the National Anti-Narcotics Agency (BNN) for further investigation.
The total value of the confiscated illicit drugs was over Rp75 billion.
In line with the existing laws, the suspects could face death sentence for attempting to smuggle in more than five grams of illicit drugs. (WDY)
