Denpasar (Antara Bali) - In an effort to set schools free from drug circulation, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in Denpasar, Bali, got hundreds of senior students to undergo urine tests, on Monday, according to local BNN Chief Purwadi.
"With the urine test at the state Senior High School SMAN-5, we want the students and the schools to help create drug-free environment," Purwadi stated, adding that most of the students are now the target of drug abuse.
He pointed out that 225 out of 1,180 students at SMAN-5 took the urine tests conducted by the BNN. The BNN will continue to do so across seven other state high schools and private schools in Denpasar.
Purwadi noted that the BNN has earlier conducted these test on workers of several private companies and local government institutions to prevent drug circulation.
Meanwhile, BNN chief for public empowerment section I Gusti Agung Putra Kesuma Wijaya explained that besides the community of productive age, the students made the highest number in drug abuse in Denpasar and Bali in general.
Gusti pointed out that up to 2014, the number of drug users in the island resort of Bali has reached 5,553 and 500 others had undergone rehabilitation.
"We are trying to reach the rest of drug users who have not undergone the rehabilitation because we want to reduce the number of users," he noted. (WDY)
