Mataram (Antara Bali) - Foreign tourists still dominate the number of climbers to Mount Rinjani in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province, according to Mt Rinjani National Park Authority, Sulistriono here on Friday.
Rising to 3,726 meters above the sea level, Mt Rinjani is the second highest volcano in Indonesia.
Sulistriono noted that of 15.020 climbers in 2012, 8,778 were foreign tourists while the rest were domestic ones.
According to him, more than 1,660 tourists go mountaineering to Rinjani every month.
He said, the second highest mountain in Indonesia, with an altitude of 3.726 meters above sea level after Mount Kerinci in Sumatra, with an altitude of 3.800 meters above sea level, can only be climbed within nine months every year.
Regent of North Lombok Djohan Sjamsu said Mount Rinjani is now impressed slums and It needs attention to remain attractive for tourists. (IGT)
