Jakarta (Antara Bali)- The Jakarta administration will develop a Ciliwung River tourism to attract domestic as well as foreign tourists.
"I think if along Ciliwung River flow is developed into a water tourist object, it will certainly attract tourists and our income will increase," Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said here, Thursday.
For that purpose, the Jakarta provincial administration will demolish illegal buildings along Ciliwung River in Kampung Pulo, he stated.
Besides, Jakarta will also build another rental flat having 16 to 18 floors in Kampung Pulo area.
"So, the rental flat will be surrounded with an urban forest and water tourist attraction," he noted.
Jakarta would return the condition of Kampung Pulo, which means a kampong on the middle of and isle, like the one during the Dutch colonial area.
Local residents who will lose their houses due to the development, could stay in the modest flat by paying Rp300 thousand (nearly US$20) a month, or Rp10 thousand a day, he remarked.
The Jakarta authorities demolished hundreds shanty houses along the Ciliwung riverbank in Kampung Pulo, East Jakarta on August 20.
The authorities ordered residents to vacate their settlement built on riverbanks and relocate them to a new flat as the government efforts to clear the flood-prone area. (WDY)
