Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) is awaiting President Joko Widodo to inaugurate Comsr. Gen. Budi Gunawan as a national police chief until two weeks.
"President Joko Widodo stated he would postpone the inauguration of new national police chief when he announced deputy police chief Comsr. Gen. Badrodin Haiti as acting police chief," Chief of the House Commission III Aziz Syamsudin said here on Thursday.
The DPR has approved the nomination of Comsr. Gen. Budi Gunawan for the post of national police chief at a plenary meeting recently.
Aziz said President Joko Widodo only postponed the inauguration of police chief. This does not mean that he will not inaugurate Comsr, Gen. Budi Gunawan as a national police chief.
"The House Commission III gives him two weeks to inaugurate him," he said.
President Jokowi issued two decrees on Friday (January 16): one dismissing Gen. Sutarman as national police chief and the other appointing Deputy Police Chief Commr. Gen. Badrodin Haiti as acting national police chief.
The decision was taken after National Police Chief hopeful Commr. Gen. Budi Gunawan, despite Parliament's approval, was named a graft suspect by the KPK in connection with certain rewards that he allegedly received through suspicious transactions. (WDY)
