Bogor (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian Teachers Union (PGRI) has urged teachers not to get involved in regional elections because it will hinder their performance.
"Today, many teachers have fallen prey to the political agenda during regional elections," said Sulistyo, Chairman of the PGRI, during the event of the National Teachers Day 2012 and the 67th anniversary of the Indonesian Teachers Union, at the Sentul Convention Centre in the Bogor district of West Java, on Tuesday.
This event was attended by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono. Sulistyo requested the president to come up with ways to overcome this problem.
"This problem must be evaluated seriously before it hinders the teachers' performance," said Sulistyo.
To ensure that the teachers' code of ethics is in accordance with the law (article 44), the Indonesian Teachers Union established the Indonesian Teachers Honorary Board in various districts and cities across the country. (IGT/T007)
