Bandar Seri Begawan (Antara Bali) - Indonesia has so far marketed a total of 3,497 types of its products to Brunei Darussalam, however, the products were not directly shipped to the neighboring country, an Indonesian envoy has said.
"To date, most of the products have been marketed to Brunei through Singapore," the Indonesian ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Handriyo Kusumo Priyo told ANTARA here over the weekend.
A survey on the Indonesian products held here in 2010 showed that a total of 1,261 types of Indonesian products were sold in the oil-rich country, and the amount rose to 3,497 types in 2011, he said without giving detail of the trade value.
Indonesia is expected to raise its export products to Brunei especially foods such as instant noodles, coffee and beverages, he said.
On the other hand, Brunei has exported crude oil and gas to Indonesia.
According to him, the unavailability of direct shipment of the Indonesian products to Brunei is part of barriers which should be solved.
The bilateral trade value as shown by the Indonesian trade ministry until June 2012 is US$391.9 million.
In addition, Brunei, with a population of only 500,000, constitutes the 39th export destination country for Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Indonesia is Brunei's 4th largest trade partner after Japan, South Korea and Australia.(*/M038)
