Timika (Antara Bali) - The military in Papua offers help for police to deal with security problem created by armed gangs which have terrorized people in the regency of Mimika , Papua, lately.
"In principle, we are ready to help police to cope with any security problem in the regency of Mimika," Lt. Col Dwi Lagan Safrudin, chief of the Mimika district military command, said .
Dwi Lagan said the military has not received official request from police to jointly hunt for the armed gangs, which have created security problem such as the recent shootings at Jalan Tanggul Timur and Kali Kopi in the district.
"It is a policy to be decided by those in the high command. We in the field will be ready to receive and carry out order," Dwi Lagan said here on Tuesday.
Deputy chief of the Papua regional police Brig. Gen. Paulus Waterpauw said earlier police would ask related agencies to help cope with armed gangs which have made a reappearance by terrorizing the people.(*/DWA/T007)
