Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Publicly PT Garuda Indonesia (GIA) has prepared a budget of Rp37.5 trillion for investment in 2012-2015 to strengthen its domestic network.
"The investment excludes that for planned improvement of facilities outside Jakarta," its president director Emirsyah Satar said at a seminar on Indonesia International Infrastructure Conference and Exhibition 2012 here on Wednesday.
He said Garuda has appointed Standard Chartered Securities Indonesia as its financial adviser with regard to the investment funding. Funding options include issuance of dollar and rupiah-denominated bonds and rights issue, he added.
He said the funds would be used among others to open five connecting hubs that would be Garuda home bases in Jakarta, Medan, Makassar, Balikpapan and Denpasar.
The Jakarta hub (Cengkareng) would be the main hub to connect Corridor 1 to 6, he said. "With the six hubs we would be able to serve around 1,000 flights per day. Now we are serving close to 390 flights a day," he said.
Emirsyah said the hub in Medan, North Sumatra, would be opened next year which will connect Hub 1 and Hub 2. The aircraft to be used to serve the hubs are Boeing 737-800 and five CRJ-type aircraft.
He said the hub in Balikpapan, Kalimantan, meanwhile would connect Corridor 1 to 4 and the hub in Denpasar, Bali, would be improved to serve international routes besides Soekarno-Hatta airport in Cengkareng and Corridor 2, 3, 4 and 5.
He said 60 routes would be added to the hub in Makassar, Sulawesi, where the Ujung Pandang airport would be connected with other corridors. "We hope the connections could improve economies in Corridor 1 to 6. We have seen growth in the aviation industry in line with Indonesia's economic growth," he said.(*/T007)
