Kuta (Antara Bali) - The flows in domestic passenger arrivals at Bali`s Ngurah Rai Airport spiked on the first day of the long weekend on Thursday.
The General Manager of airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I, Trikora Harjo, said although the passenger influx was huge, they could still be accommodated in scheduled regular flights.
"We are not operating any additional or extra flights yet," he stated.
Thousands of passengers from a number of cities in the country, such as from Surabaya (East Java), Jakarta and Makassar (South Sulawesi) flooded the airport aboard various airlines.
They also wished to spend the holiday on Thursday to mark the ascension of Jesus Christ and on Friday, the ascension of Prophet Mohammad day, as well as Saturday and Sunday, which are common holidays.
Some passengers said they had planned for the holiday by booking plane tickets a long time back.
"I and my family came to Bali for a long weekend holiday. We will return home on Sunday," a passenger from Jakarta said.
The passenger rush is expected to continue until Friday, and returning passenger traffic is expected to peak on Sunday. (WDY)
