Jakarta (Antara Bali)- Education and Culture Minister Anies Baswedan emphasized the importance of improving the quality of human resources in a speech at a function to commemorate National Education Day.
"We celebrate National Education Day as a day to spread awareness on the importance of enhancing the quality of human resources," Baswedan affirmed here, Monday.
The minister quoted President Joko Widodo as saying that Indonesia would command global respect and be successful in various competitions in the current era if its human resources were of high quality.
Educated and enlightened human resources are the key to the nation's progress, he pointed out.
"The quality and level of education have a significant impact by creating opportunities to ensure progress and prosperity. Hence, ascertaining that every Indonesian has access to quality education in his or her life, means guaranteeing the glory and survival of the nation," he emphasized.
He urged every teacher to support the students in preparing for their future.
The support can be offered by imparting necessary knowledge to respond to the challenges of the times, among other things.
"The skills needed by Indonesian children in the 21st century encompass three components: the quality of character, the literacy capability, and competency," he remarked.
He stated that every child was a learner, and it was the duty of every teacher to ensure that their spirits remained high.
This year's National Education Day is themed "Turn On the Light, Brighten the Ideals." (WDY)
