Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Ministry of Environment and Forests has launched two reports on steps towards the implementation of REDD + (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) and actions to mitigate climate change.
"The two reports have been submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)," Director General of Climate Change Nur Masripatin, said here Friday.
The Forest References Emission Level (FREL) report is a basis for measuring the performance of reduction of emissions and forest destruction, and is a foundation for an incentive to the REDD+ implementation, he said.
REDD+ is a greenhouse gas emissions reduction program from deforestation and forest degradation.
Indonesia's first Biennial Update Report (BUR) contained information about the updating of national greenhouse gas inventories, mitigation information, as well as needs and support that have been received for climate change activities, he said.
"BUR also includes national circumstances such as an inventory of greenhouse gases, climate change mitigation actions and their influence, as well as financing, technology and capacity building," he said.
During 2008-2014, the Indonesian government received Rp1,178 trillion of total commitments amounting to Rp3,04 trillion from bilateral and multilateral institutions.
The international documents were prepared on the basis of data consistency and transparency to ensure that they could be accessed by the public, and to make the reports accountable, Nur added.
The BUR report said that in 2012 total greenhouse gas emissions, including those caused by land-use conversion and peat fires, reached 1,453,957 giga grams of carbon dioxide. (WDY)
