Telecommunication Facilities For Sail Tomini Ready For Operation

Palu, Central Sulawesi (Antara Bali) - Cellular telecommunication facilities installed by state telecommunication company PT Telkom Indonesia to support the international maritime event of Sail Tomini 2015 are ready for operation.

         "Three base transceiver stations (BTS) installed at the location of the Sail Tomini main event at Kayubura beach are ready for operation, and will be tested on September 5," local Telkom branch manager Eko Wahyudi has said.

          He noted that the three base stations will support the existing stations, as well as handle eight thousand conversations, data, and internet transmissions at the same time.

          "The signal will be very good for more than 10,000 guests and invitees and people, as well as people who will attend the Sail Tomini main event on September 19, 2015," Wahyudi remarked.

          PT Telkom Indonesia has also installed fiber optical cable to provide communications during Sail Tomini.

          "A 53.3-kilometer long optical cable is being installed to connect the cities of Palu and Parigi, and the work is now almost completed. We hope it will become operational during the first week of September," the company's General Manager for Central Sulawesi, Marnoto, said.

          He also explained that a 13.5-kilometer cable had been installed between Parigi and the location of the Sail Tomini main event in Kayubura, and another 40-kilometer long cable had been installed between Palu city and Toboli village.

          According to Marnoto, the 13.5-kilometer optical cable will enable PT Telkom to boost network capacity and quality by establishing three mobile base stations in Kayubura to hold conversations, short messages and data for 8,000 users at the same time.

          Further, PT Telkom will also provide 20 access points for WiFi and Indihome to the visitors and guests at the Sail Tomini main event.

           Meanwhile, the 40-kilometer fiber optical cable installed between Palu and Toboli will connect the eight mobile base transceiver stations to ensure that there are spots without service along the road between Palu and Toboli. (WDY)
