Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The religious affairs ministry is lending complete support to ensure the successful implementation of Sail Tomini 2015 by organizing a Maritime Boarding School Festival in Palu on September 13.
The ministry's education and boarding school directorate took part in the Sail Tomini event in line with a plan to develop a maritime boarding school, the religious affairs ministry noted in a statement here, Monday.
The Maritime Boarding School Festival was aimed at introducing programs and highlighting the presence of maritime boarding schools located near the coastal areas.
A maritime boarding school not only teaches the verses of the Quran related to maritime affairs but also emphasizes the implementation of Islamic values in using natural resources while simultaneously preserving the environment.
The boarding school also encourages students to run economically independent boarding schools.
Dr Mohsen, the director of education and boarding school directorate of the religious affairs ministry, remarked that Central Sulawesi has some boarding schools that are being developed into model maritime boarding schools.
The Maritime Boarding School Festival was enlivened by a fun march, a musical performance by the Wali band, and a decorated vehicle carnival in Palu city. Most of Wali's musicians are alumni of boarding schools.
On the occasion, the ministry handed out operational assistance and incentives to teachers from 40 boarding schools across Indonesia, including 20 in Central Sulawesi.
Besides this, the ministry is also organizing a Maritime Boarding School expo in Parigi Moutong on September 14-19 that will feature maritime-related products and works created by the students of boarding schools.
The peak ceremony of the international maritime event of Sail Tomini is scheduled to be held in Parigi Moutong District, Central Sulawesi Province, on September 19, 2015. (WDY)
