Jakarta (Antara Bali) -- President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo received a delegation from China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and held a closed-door meeting at Merdeka Palace here on Monday.
Clad in batik clothes, the Indonesian president opened the meeting at around 02:00 p.m.
Journalists were allowed to take photographs of the meeting but only for a few minutes.
Several ministers attended the meeting, including Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, and National Development Planning Minister/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Andrianof Chaniago.
Also present at the meeting were Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno, and Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan.
Indonesia and China signed eight memoranda of understanding (MoU) some time ago. They were on cooperation between the NDRC and the Indonesian State-Owned Enterprises Ministry to build a high-speed railway line linking Jakarta and Bandung.
The MoUs were also on economic cooperation between the NDRC and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and cooperation between the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) and the Chinese Transportation Ministry.
Moreover, the two countries also signed a protocol of agreement on preventing the imposition of double taxation.
The NDRC is one of China's major administrative bodies, responsible for a wide range of economic, social and environmental laws and policies within the country. (WDY)
