Denpasar, Bali (Antara Bali) - Chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri has reminded President Joko Widodo to adhere to the constitution.
"Fulfill campaign promises because it is a sacred bond with the people," Megawati stated while delivering a political speech at the opening of the fourth congress of the PDIP here on Thursday.
The congress was attended by President Joko Widodo, Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Zulkifli Hasan, People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Oesman Sapta Odang, Chairman of the National Democrat Party (Nasdem) Surya Paloh, Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar, Chairman of Hanura Party Wiranto, Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI) Chairman Soetiyoso, and Chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) Muhammad Romahurmuziy.
With regard to its constitutional duties, Megawati said that the PDIP was playing its part by reminding the national leaders about their duty to protect the country and its people.
Protecting the nation includes preventing campaigns by terror networks that have been waging war against humanity, Megawati noted. "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is a serious problem, and it needs to be addressed," she affirmed.
According to Megawati, ISIS has been acting on behalf of the state and has even recruited Indonesian citizens.
The fifth president of the Republic of Indonesia asserted that the government must eradicate all forms of radicalism and terrorism. "The PDIP firmly rejects all forms of radicalism and terrorism as Indonesia is a sovereign country with a tradition of a tolerant society," she emphasized.
Megawati remarked that Indonesia will combat and prevent the spread of ISIS ideology in the country. "Indonesia must uphold its cultural values and should develop as a diverse nation," she added. (WDY)
