Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian currency rupiah regained some of its losses against the US dollar in the opening trade on Friday boosted by an increase in the country's foreign exchange reserve.
"The sentiment from the rise in the country's foreign exchange reserve was still one of the factors shoring up rupiah," chief researcher of Woori Korindo Securities Indonesia Reza Priyambada said here.
The currency traded at the level of 12,639 per dollar gaining slightly from earlier level of 12,665 per dollar.
Bank Indonesia announced yesterday the country's foreign exchange reserves rose US$800 million to US$111.9 billion by the end of December , 2014 from US$111.1 billion a month earlier .
The US central bank's announcement that it would not raise its benchmark interest rate in the near future also was significant in strengthening the position of rupiah, he said.
Reza, however, warned of possible reversal as new sentiment could put pressure on the national currency.
Financial market analyst from Bank Himpunan Saudara Tbk Rully Nova said profit taking in the US market after strong rise of the US dollar over the past several days also contributed to rupiah gain. (WDY)
