Jayapura (Antara Bali) - The Papua provincial administration plans to build a hospital specially for the treatment of HIV/AIDS patients, an official said.
Papua is one of the country's regions most infected by the deathly disease.
"So far treatment of HIV/AIDs patients has been discriminative. There must be a hospital specially to treat those positively infected by HIV/AIDS," head of the Papua regional health service Aloysius Giyai said here on Monday.
Aloysius said the authorities have lacked seriousness in eradicating the disease ," probably because the disease is contagious."
The government , therefore, decided to build a HIV/AIDS hospital, he said, adding,"the location for the hospital has been made available."
He said construction of the hospital, which will also treat lepers, will start in 2015.
The Papua provincial administration also plan to build a general hospital and a maternity hospital in Jayapura, he said.
Construction of the general hospital will start after the HIV/AIDS hospital has been built, her added.
Papua Governor Lukas Enembe is preparing a budget for the HIV/AIDS hospital that construction could start in 2015, he said. (WDY)
