Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The ruling party is aware of its lower-than-targeted vote tally in the recent legislative elections, so it cannot do much in the coming presidential poll, noted Democrat Partys General Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).
"The Democrat Party is aware that it has gained 10 percent of the popular vote," Yudhoyono stated here on Friday.
By gaining around 10 percent of the popular vote the Democrat Party cannot do much, he remarked.
Secretary of the Committee for the Democrat Party Presidential Convention Suaidi Marasabessy earlier remarked that SBY will announce the winner of the presidential convention on Friday evening based on the survey results.
"It is Mr SBY who will directly announce the winner of the convention based on the surveys at the office of the Democrat Partys central executive board on Friday evening." Suaidi noted on Thursday night.
Before the results of the surveys are announced, they will be disclosed to the participants of the presidential convention at around 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the secretariat of the presidential convention, he added.
Senior researcher of Joint Data Center (PDB) Daniel Rembeth has forecast that the Democrat Party may form a new coalition for the July 9 presidential poll.
"Today, Mr SBY met with Mr Aburizal (chairman of the Golkar Party) in Jakarta. Although they will reportedly hold an informal tea party, I think they will hold political talks," Daniel stated on Wednesday.
The two parties can form a new coalition because they have 152 seats in the parliament, which is well above the presidential threshold of 122 seats, he affirmed.
The Golkar Party came second in the April 9 legislative elections with more than 14 percent of the popular vote, while the Democrat Party finished fourth with about 10 percent of the popular vote.(WDY)
