Banda Aceh (Antara Bali) - The customs and excise officials of Banda Aceh have foiled an attempt to smuggle in hundreds of sacks of sticky rice and sugar from Sabang Port's Free Trade Zone, an official said.
Head of Banda Aceh's Customs and Excise Office Beni Novri said here on Saturday that the smugglers attempted to smuggle in the commodities by using a fishing vessels.
"The officers confiscated 270 sacks of glutinous rice each containing 25 kg, 60 sacks of sugar each containing 50 kg and two fishing vessels," Beni Novri said.
The skippers (I and N) of the two vessels were also detained for questioning. The two fishing boats are KM Beumakmu and KM Selat Jaya.
Beni Novri explained the chronology of the official's efforts to foil the smuggling attempt.
At the beginning, the patrol boat came across with three fishing boats in the waters of Ulee Lheue, Banda Ache, at 4.0am on Friday (May 24). (*/DWA)
