"Markandeya Yoga City which is to be built at Sukasada village in Buleleng district will be the largest yoga center in Asia," Bali-India Foundation chairman Dr Somvir said here on Thursday.
He said the first corner-stone of the center on a 1.5-hectare plot of land would be laid on March 3 next year in conjunction with the opening of an International Bali-India Yoga Festival.
"Markandeya Yoga City will run a program to give youths yoga-inspired education from elementary to high-school level," Somvir said.
He said the yoga education center would also implement "Ayurweda" traditional medicine and integrate it with permanent treatment by using various kinds of plants around the campus.
According to Simvir, the construction of Markandeya Yoga City would be done in stages while the needed land would be cleared in cooperation with the local community.
"The Yoga center will be fully dedicated to social activities and the local community's wellbeing," Somvir said.
He said the project was actually commenced with the growing of around 50 kinds of medicinal plants from India.
The medicinal plants which were effective to cure various diseases had been developed in the Tegal Linggah area of Sukasada village in Buleleng district.
Somvis said Markandeya Yoga City would be the venue of the second International Bali-India Yoga Festival from March 3-10, 2010 with around 1,500 participants from India, Europe, the United States, and the Asian region.
According to Somvir, Bali hosted a one-week International yoga festival from March 3-10 this year which involved hundreds of yoga instructors from various countries around the world.
Themed "Yoga for Peace and Health," the March festival was followed by a Yoga Day program and a series of activities around the Perjuangan Rakyat Bali (Bali People's Struggle) Monument in the Niti Mandala Renon area in Denpasar.
During the one-week activities, the yoga instructors actively gave yoga courses which were good for health. (*)
