Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Indonesia supports the joint efforts by the international community to improve technology in less-developed countries, the Information Ministry's Director General of Mail Infrastructure Resources Ismail said here on Tuesday.
The support will be one of the main agendas of the country in the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) forums, including the World Development Telecommunication Conference (WDTC), which will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina's capital city in Oct, he stated at a press conference on the union's Regional Preparatory Meeting.
"The Indonesian government will engage with the international community to resolve the world's problems by assuring that the less-developed countries receive advantages from the forums," Ismail noted.
The director general stated that technology in information remains important to support the national development; therefore, the government needs to assure that the economy sector would be fully digitalized in future.
Indonesia has built the technology's infrastructure in all provinces in the past, even to the remote areas across the country.
"We have started the Palapa Ring program, which is intended to connect all the districts and towns in 2019," he remarked.
The government believes that the future of the country's economy sector will be in line with the information and communication development, he reiterated.
Meanwhile, the Union's director of telecommunication development bureau, Brahima Sanou, while attending the press conference noted that technology was a tool to develop and reduce the inequality among people as well as regions.
"Technology could serve as an instrument for the governments to improve people's well being. Many projects such as electronic-agriculture, e-education, or e-commerce could be conducted by adopting the latest technologies," he noted.
The Union's Asia Pacific Regional Preparatory Meeting will be held in Bali, Indonesia, from March 21 to 23. The meeting would serve as a forum to synchronize the members' interests at the upcoming world telecommunication conference.(WDY)
