Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The district court of Denpasar, Bali, sentenced two Nigerian nationals to 18 years in jail each for involvement in shipment of illegal drugs.
"The judges shared the prosecutors' view that the two have violated the law on narcotics in connection with possessing methamphetamine weighing 2087.70 grams," chief judge Istiningsih Rahayu said reading the verdict here on Monday.
Austine Bosah Uchena alias Lala (39) and Michael Onyedika Onuorah (24) were also fined Rp2 billion each or staying in jail for another two years if they failed to pay it.
The prosecutor had demanded only eight years for each of them but the same fine.
Upon hearing the verdict the two said they would think whether or not they would appeal it.
Besides Uchenna and Onuorah, other defendants belonging to their syndicate are currently still being tried separately. They are Yakno, a Filipino, Beverly Adtoon Fulache and Enny Maliani alias Chika who are Indonesian nationals.
The two Nigerians were caught by customs officials, Bali regional and national police officers developing the case of Beverly arrested earlier carrying two kilograms of meth in his bag upon arrival in Bali aboard Air Asia AK 366 from Malaysia on July 13, 2010.
Following the arrest of Beverly, Eny was later caught and confessed the stuff was ordered by Uchenna and Onuorah.(*)
