Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The former deputy negotiator of Vietnam for Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), Ambassador Nguyen Nguyet Nga said that the TPP will bring substantial benefit to the Indonesian economy.
"Indonesia needs to join the TPP. Indonesia could get great advantage by joining the partnership," the ambassador said here on Wednesday.
Therefore, she added, Vietnam is promoting Indonesia to make a plan and preparations to join the partnership.
The TPP, according to Nga, will help Indonesia expand export market, boost economic restructuring and growth, and build connectivity with the major economic countries.
In addition, she added, TPP will support Indonesia in developing and reforming socioeconomic sectors.
The TPP, Nga said, will give a better position to Indonesia in negotiations on Free Trade Agreement.
"As a new comer in TPP, there are certainly challenges to be faced by Indonesia. Vietnam has dealt with the challenge when deciding to join the partnership," she noted.
One of the challenges that Vietnam has to face is manpower issue. According to her, the country needs to conduct domestic reform, and restructure its economic policy as well as improve people's abilities in competing with other countries.
She suggested Indonesia should carry out research on its position in the TPP.
"It is true that Indonesia is a new comer in TPP and there are several challenges to be dealt with. However, Indonesia is not the only new comer in the TPP. The important thing is when it should start negotiating. The sooner, the better," Nga said. (WDY)
