Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia, through its embassy in Doha, is committed to strengthening economic cooperation with Qatar in the areas of trade, tourism, and investment (TTI).

"The Indonesian embassy will use all the resources it has to achieve its economic mission," Indonesian Ambassador Muhammad Basri Sidehabi was quoted as saying by the embassy's Counselor, Boy Dharmawan, on Monday.

Indonesia has prioritized economic diplomacy in its relations with Qatar. To this end, the embassy has outlined several programs that are focused on increasing trade and investment cooperation and boosting the number of foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia.

The embassy supports the signing of the Air Service Agreement between Indonesia and Qatar. It is expected to boost foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia and increase its exports to Qatar.

The embassy will also attempt to initiate and facilitate the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the chambers of industry and commerce of the two countries.

The Indonesian government is also discussing investment projects worth US$1 billion that it will offer to the Qatar Investment Authority.

Qatar's major investment in Indonesia has covered finance and communications involving the Qatar National Bank (QNB) Indonesia and Oredoo Indosat. QNB has operated for seven years in Indonesia and has generated a profit of $3 billion. (WDY)
