Indonesia Exports Wood Charcoal To Saudi Arabia

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia said an Indonesian company has managed to meet the demand for wood charcoal worth Rp2,67 billion, or approximately US$197,808 to the country.

The transaction was made after a Saudi Arabia importer, Hassan Saeed Al Zahrani, visited CV Promosia Dagang Asia in Surabaya, East Java. The visit was a follow-up to a business meeting facilitated by the ITPC Jeddah on May 16, according to a press statement received by Antara here on Thursday
"CV Promosia is a charcoal manufacturer that is active participating in exhibitions initiated by the ITPC in Jeddah. CV Promosia is an Indonesian company located in Surabaya, which has long been producing wood charcoal of international standards," the Head of the ITPC in Jeddah, Gunawan, said.

The Saudi Arabia importers had conducted field surveys and visits to see the wood charcoal processing factory, storage and packing facilities.

After seeing the production process, which is done following the international standards, the Saudi Arabian businessman became interested in importing wood charcoal from CV Promosia Dagang Asia by shipping consignments of 40 Highcube (HC) per month.

Despite having large oil and gas reserves, the Saudi Arabians deeply appreciate the taste of food prepared with high standards and strictly avoid residual combustion derived from fossil fuels.

Therefore, Arabian foods, such as kebuli rice (steamed rice dish cooked in goat broth, milk, and ghee), bukhori rice, briani rice, madi rice and more are processed using charcoal.

Wood charcoal is widely used as a fuel for cooking in households, restaurants and hotels.

Gunawan said that after the Saudi Food, Hotel and Hospitality (SFHH) fair 2016, ITPC Jeddah gets a lot of wood charcoal demands from hotels and restaurants in Saudi Arabia. Demand also rose ahead of Ramadan. (WDY)
