Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The number of international flights from the Ngurah Rai airport of Bali to other countries all over the world rose 5.69 percent to 2,941 units in January , 2016 from 2,357 flights in the month earlier.
"Most of the passengers were foreign tourists returning home after spending their holidays in Bali," head of the Central Bureau of Statistics of Bali Ir Adi Nugroho said here on Tuesday.
The number of arrivals of international passengers in Bali during that period rose 19.78 percent from 344,698 in December 2015 to 412,892 in January , 2016, Adi said.
The baggage of international flights also increased in volume from 5,604 tons to 6,530 tons, he said.
There were 350,592 foreign tourists visiting Bali in January, 2016 , up 16.19 percent from 301,748 in the same period last year, but 5.41 percent lower than 370,640 in December, 2015.
The Tourism Service of Bali province predicted that the number of foreign tourists to visit Bali would reach 4.2 million in 2016.
In 2015, the number of foreign tourists vacationing in Bali totaled 4.001 million , up 6.24 percent from 3.76 million in the previous year.
The number exceeded the target of 4 million tourist set for 2015, Adi Nugroho said.
He said the largest number of flights leaving Bali were for Australia totaling 743 units carrying 137,992 passengers , followed by Singapore with 468 flights with 61,996 passengers, Malaysia with 327 flights carrying 40,253 passengers , China with 216 flights carrying 36,401 passengers , Hong Kong 178 flights carrying 34,980 passengers , Timor Leste 91 flights carrying 6,517 passengers and South Korea 84 flights carrying 16,613 passengers, Thailand 75 flights carrying 10,975 passengers and Japan 64 flights carrying 12,970 passengers and Qatar 62 flights carrying 17,526 passengers.
