Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Palestines president Mahmoud Abbas briefed
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) about current condition in his country
during a bilateral meeting here on Sunday.
"He told about border issue, illegal settlement and also
Palestinian refugees living outside Palestine," President Jokowi said
after the meeting held ahead of the 5th Organization of Islamic
Cooperation Extraordinary Summit on Monday.
President Jokowi said he had also discussed security situation in a number of zones controlled by Israel in the meeting.
"I just now also conveyed Indonesias commitment to continue to give full support to the Palestinian independence," he said.
Indonesia, President Jokowi, said also would give full support to
breakthroughs to be done in the framework of international peace.
"Indonesia hopes the results of the summit in Jakarta could be used
as a concrete input for the mechanism of future conferences," he said.
The 5th OIC Summit on March 6-7 is a concrete form of efforts made
by OIC members including Indonesia to push for the settlement of the
Palestinian conflict.
Egypt and Palestine have asked Indonesia to hold the summit to discuss Palestinian independence and sovereignty.
The summit is held with an aim of strengthening OIC support to the
settlement of the Palestinian problem as a priority issue of the Islamic
world and of formulating strategies and approaches to find a
breakthrough to re-activate the peace process in the Middle East.
The summit is also expected to produce protection and access to
Palestinians in Al-Quds Al-Sharif and reaffirmation of its support to
the realization of Palestinian independence with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as
its capital.
The extraordinary summit which will officially be opened on Monday
is expected to produce two documents on Palestina and on Al-Quds As
Syarif (the Holy City of Jerusalem), namely a resolution and a
declaration.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the resolution
document will contain the reconfirmation of the OIC members,focussing on
Palestine and Jerusalem where the Al-Aqsa Mosque is located.
On the other hand, the declaration document will be more terse and
simple containing concrete steps ahead to follow up issues that have
been agreed upon by OIC countries with regard to Palestine and
Jerusalem. (WDY)
