New York (Antara Bali) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) said Indonesia has implemented sustainable development programs initiated by the United Nations.
"The development program of the Indonesian government is similar to the sustainable development goals of the United Nations that focus on integrating international strategies to the government's program," JK said here on Friday, after the opening of the Sustainable Development Summit 2015.
JK noted several programs for sustainable development that are being implemented by the government, such as poverty alleviation and improving education.
Indonesia, says JK, needs to focus on poverty alleviation programs.
"We should rectify our paradigm on how to build a healthier environment, rather than only curing sick people. We should create a healthy environment in the country," the Vice President said.
JK added that the Indonesian people must be involved in improving the development program.
The government, as well as non-governmental organizations, should support each other to reach its development goals.
Vice President JK is visiting New York to attend the UN General Assembly. He is in the US along with several ministers, including Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Health Minister Yunita Moeloek.
JK added that the country does not need a special ministry to manage its sustainable development goals.
The Vice President added that Indonesia already has a National Development Planning Board to coordinate the sustainable development goals in the country. (WDY)
