Jakarta (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo visited the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) to commemorate 38 years of capital market reactivation.
"I hope the BEI continues to transform itself and strengthen inclusive investment. I am confident that our capital market is strong. We should maintain market confidence," President Widodo affirmed here on Monday.
The president lauded the policy of investor protection in the capital market through the Indonesia Securities Investor Protection Fund (SIPF), with the compensation offered to investors being increased to Rp100 million from the previous Rp25 million.
"It is expected to provide security to investors," the president emphasized.
On the occasion, the president also stated that the weakening of the Indonesian Composite Index (IHSG) should not be a cause of major concern due to its movement in accordance with international stock markets.
"The weakening of the IHSG did not only occur in Indonesia but also in other developed countries. This is a consequence of the global economic slowdown," the president pointed out.
He reiterated that Indonesia is the world's fifth-largest economy, so the people should remain optimistic.
"The economic growth in other countries slowed down by two percent. Indonesia's economic growth fell by 0.3 percent," he noted.
During the event, the president delivered a speech about the improvement in SIPF and inaugurated TV Bursa.
The president also submitted a bond listing certificate to Telkom's president director and handed over a securities account form of Sritex to its representatives. (WDY)
