Jakarta (Antara Bali)- Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has estimated a decrease in the number of migrants coming to Jakarta after the Idul Fitri Islamic festivity.
"I estimate that the number of newcomers can reach 60 to 70 thousand. The number is smaller than that recorded in the previous year," Basuki alias Ahok stated here, Wednesday.
The decrease is due to the even distribution of development projects across the country, he noted.
"The number of migrants is estimated to drop after the implementation of regional autonomy. Besides this, industries have been developing in Central and East Java. So, the number of those migrants coming to Jakarta is decreasing," Ahok remarked.
Another factor that tends to discourage migrants from going to Jakarta is the poor means of transportation, he stated.
"The number of newcomers could drop, as there are not many modes of transportation. Imagine if there were Light Rail Transit (LRT) or other modes of transportation, then the situation would be different," Ahok pointed out.
The governor affirmed that he will not ban homebound travelers from taking their relatives to Jakarta as long as they have proper houses and permanent jobs. (WDY)
