Jakarta (Antara Bali) -- Cyber security has become a common concern of ministers in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Indonesian Minister of Information and Communication Technology Rudiantara said.
"Therefore, ASEAN ministers will discuss the issue of cyber security in a meeting in Vietnam in November," he stated here on Thursday.
The issue of cyber security cannot be ignored, in addition to the development of information and communication technologies, the minister added.
Several sectors, including the banking industry, use such technologies that are connected through the Internet. These fields can be attacked through the Internet, as well.
"If we cannot fight cyber attacks, companies and the interests of the nation can suffer losses," Rudiantara cautioned.
Therefore, the government is discussing and reviewing the establishment of the National Cyber Agency, which will be governed by the president.
Furthermore, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno noted that the government is requesting inputs from experts and stakeholders to form the agency.
"The institution is required to coordinate security in the cyberspace to combat and prevent cyber attacks that endanger national interest," he remarked. (WDY)
