Banda Aceh, Aceh (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is expected in Aceh on Monday to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a Rp1.7 trillion dam project in the sub-district of Paya Bakong, North Aceh.
Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadi Muljono said the dam is designed mainly to control floods and for irrigation.
Floods have hit the city of Lhoksukon and nearby areas in the sub-district of Paya Bakong almost every year.
The President and his entourage including the first lady would first visit PT Arun in Lhokseumawe before proceeding to the Keureuto dam project.
The dam would also be able to irrigate 9,420 hectares of rice fields in that area . A hydropower plant of 6.34 megawatts could also be built using the dam water energy.
At PT Arun , the president will hear report about progress made in a re-gasification project in the former gas liquefaction plant in Lhokseumawe. (WDY)
