Semarang, C Java (Antara Bali) - Indonesia looks set to win a title in the women's singles event of the Yonex Sunrise Masters 2014.
The hopes are high after Indonesia's four shuttlers moved to the semifinals in the tournament held in Palembang, capital of South Sumatra Province, on Friday.
The four players are second-seeded Maria Febe Kusumastuti, who will take on Ruselli Hartawan, and third-seeded Adrianti Firdasari, who will face Elizabeth Purwaningtyas.
Chief of the Djarum Kudus badminton club Yoppy Rosimin said on Friday Maria Febe Kusumastuti and Ruselli Hartawan will demonstrate tight games.
Maria Febe could win the match and advance to the finals if she is patient and does not commit mistakes very often. "I believe Maria Febe will have a great chance of winning if she is patient while taking on Hartawan," he noted.
In the quarterfinals, which offers a total prize of US$125 billion, Maria Febe saw off Aprilla Yuswandari in a straight set 21-17,21-18, while Ruselli Hartawan beat fourth-seeded Chen Jiayuan of Singapore in a rubber set 21-14,16-21,21-19.
Adrianti Firdasari entered the semifinals after outscoring Lian Xiaoyu of Singapore in a straight set 21-12,21-12, while Elyzabeth Purwaningtyas beat her compatriot Marsa Indah Salsabila in a rubber set 21-17,16-21,21-13.
In the women's doubles event, the host duo advanced to the semifinals after seeing off their contenders. Shendy Puspa Irawati/Vita Marissa pair, which is rated third, outclassed their compatriots Maretha Dea Giovani/Rosyita Eka Putri Sari in a rubber set 11-21,21-18,21-8.
In the quarterfinals, they will take on first-seeded Jongkonphan Kittiharakul/Rawinda Prajongjai of Thailand, who had earlier beat host duo Uswatun Khasanah/Melati Daeva Oktaviani in a straight set 21-18,21-14.
