Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Ministry of Trade has not decided if it will increase its beef import quota in 2013, said a trade official.
"We still need to discuss if it is viable to increase the beef import quota. As of now, no plans have been made," said Bachrul Chairi, acting director general for external trade, on Friday.
At present, the ministry will focus its attention on stabilising the meat prices in the market, particularly in Jakarta and in Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi.
He said the increase in meat prices is expected to reach 13 percent in 2013.
"Meat prices increased by 5.8 percent in 2011, but this year, it has reached 13 percent," Bachrul said.
He said an increase in the prices is related to supply and demand. Meat supplies generally come from the domestic market and the international market (imports). (IGT/T007)
