Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The new creativity of Balinese music must have critical meanings, said an expert.
"There are three critical meanings revealed from the background of new creativity of Balinese music, namely culture transformation, aesthetic and new awareness," a musical expert from Indonesian Arts Institute, Arya Sugiartha, said here on Sunday.
He stated that Balinese music has been transformed through three waves of Balinese culture.
"Firstly, Balinese music was formerly seen as a means of ritual, so that it foregrounds more mythology perspective affected by belief in the greatness of God," he said.
Secondly, he continued, Balinese music has been transformed into more structural arrangement which was bound by national system.
"This system has been formed the music and lead to music standardization," he said.
Thirdly, Sugiartha added that new creativity of Balinese music revealed experimental concept which created various forms and power.
"The ethnic power is the aesthetic power which reflects the beauty of music as a lesson and awareness to understand new and alternative music," he said.
He said that Balinese music has existed over some eras because it has high aesthetic values and power.
"Balinese traditional music was composed with the concept of devotion, and therefore it has been able to survive for hundreds of years," he said.(*/T007)
