Borobudur Temple Officially In Guinness World Records

Magelang (Antara Bali) - Indonesia's Borobudur temple has been officially registered in the Guinness World Records as the largest Buddhist monument in the world.
   
"On June 27, 2012, Borobudur was officially listed as the world's largest Buddhist temple in the Guinness World Records in London, Britain, under Claim No. 396-198," said Purnomo Siswoprasetjo, the director of PT Taman Wisata Candi (TWC) Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko, here on Thursday.
       
"The Borobudur temple has long been listed in Guinness World Records. The current official registration is mainly for administrative purposes," he noted.
       
Purnomo said the official certificate from Guinness World Records had been sent to PT TWC Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko, in Yokyakarta, from the central office of Guinness World Records in London.
       
"With the official registration, Borobudur will be internationally promoted through various events organised by Guinness World Records," he added.
       
PT TWC Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko has also made efforts to promote the temple domestically and internationally through tourism networks.
       
As a result, Borobudur has received several awards from Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), such as PATA Grand Pacific Award 2004, PATA Gold Award Winner 2011, PATA Gold Award Winner 2012.
       
Situated in Magelang, Central Java province, the Borobudur temple was built in 750-842 BC. The monument is 34.5 metres tall and is built over an area of 15,129 square metres.(*/M038/IGT)
