Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The opposing faction of the Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP) believes the fuel price hike issue will be decided by voting in the plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR).
"We are optimistic that the decision will be made through votes," PDIP faction secretary Bambang Wuryanto said at the parliament building here on Tuesday.
The DPR's Budget Committee, in the discussions in the past week, had only agreed with the revised budget on the oil subsidy being set at Rp137 trillion and electricity at Rp65 trillion, and had not yet agreed to the hike of subsidized gasoline.
"At the meeting on March 26, three factions had still not agreed to the fuel price hike proposal," he said.
Bambang said that if the proposal was determined through a vote then the political map could possibly change.
Meanwhile, the deputy general chairman of the ruling Democrat Party, Max Sopacua, said the Democrat Party faction was ready to meet the PDIP's challenge to bring the issue to the plenary session on March 30.(IGT)
