Chief of the Puncak Jaya police resort Adj. Snr. Comr. Alek Korwa confirmed the incident, saying Sukarno was shot while conducting a patrol along with six other Brimob members on foot.
Sukarno was shot from a hill when he arrived at Wandenggobak village, Alek said.
He said Sukarno was shot on his head while the six other Brimob members survived the incident.
By Saturday morning his body was still being kept at Mulia regional general hospital and would be flown to Jayapura, capital of Papua province, later in the day.(IGT/T007)
