Jayapura (Antara Bali) - Mako Tabuni, one of the coordinators of the National Committee for West Papua, was buried at Sereh public cemetery at about 4pm local time here on Saturday.
Tabuni died after being shot by police trying to arrest him in connection with his alleged involvement in recent shooting incidents in Jayapura and surrounding areas.
Following his death, some mourners went on a vandalism spree and burned shops, cars and motor vehicles, as well as torturing people in Waena, Jayapura
"Besides his relatives, thousand of sympathizers also attended the burial," a journalist, Aprilia Wayar, said.
Dionandre, a resident of Jayapura, said the funeral procession did not disrupt the public's activities because security forces had stood guard since Thursday.
Jayapura city police chief, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Wantri Julianto, told ANTARA that the situation in Sentani remained secure.(IGT)
