Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Violence in Papua must stop and the unidentified gunmen who have shot a Twin Otter airplane of Trigana Air in Puncak Jaya district Capital of Mulia on Sunday must be captured, a minister said on Sunday.
"Violence must be stopped in Papua," Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto said in a press statement on Sunday.
He noted security officers including National Police and Indonesian Military personnel were now hunting down the unidentified armed people who had shot the aircraft.
The aircraft was shot by unidentified armed men when it was to land at Mulia airport at 9 a.m. local time.
"We hope that the efforts to create piece and carry out development in Papua will not be disturbed by violence," he added.
Puncak Jaya Police chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Alek Korwa said police and military personnel were still chasing the gunmen who were hiding in a remote mountain near the airport.(IGT)
