Yogyakarta (Antara Bali) - The villages of culture in the province of Yogyakarta special region will continue to be promoted as tourist attractions, Yogyakarta Widya Budaya Foundation chairperson Widi Utaminingsih said here on Thursday.
"Yogyakarta has a number of cultural villages that will be promoted as potential tourist attractions," Widi said, adding that those villages would be the mainstay of tourism objects to attract both domestic as well as foreign tourists.
According to her, Yogyakarta was the center of Javanese culture and therefore the cultural villages had their own typical characteristics that could attract a lot of tourists to visit.
Widi said the cultural villages in Yogyakarta had the legacy of culture, customs and traditions that were being converted as part of the local community's life.
"Tourists who visit the cultural villages will love every minute of their stay to enjoy the natural atmosphere of the countryside, and the life of customs, traditions and arts," Widi said.
Meanwhile, Bantul district culture and tourism office spokesman Bambang Legowo also admitted the existence of several cultural villages in the district.(IGT)
