Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The trade, hotel and restaurant sector in Bali province contributed 30.63 percent of the gross regional domestic product (PDRB) which reached Rp17.99 trillion in the second quarter of 2011 based on current and constant prices.
"The agricultural sector came in second, contributing 17.51 percent of the PDRB," the head of the Bali Provincial Statistics Office, I Gede Suarsa said here on Sunday.
He said the two sectors made up almost a half of the PDRB in the first half of 2011.
"The important thing that we can learn from the two sectors is that the agricultural sector's contribution to the PDRB showed a downward trend from 18.67 percent in the second quarter of 2010 to 17.51 percent in the second quarter of 2011," he said.
On the contrary, the trade, hotel and restaurant sector's contribution to the PDRB tended to increase to 30.63 percent in the second quarter of 2011 from 29.73 percent in the same period last year, he said.
The phenomenon was attributable to dynamics in the implementation of development programs, both national and regional development projects, he said.
He said the various efforts and breakthroughs were made in pursuit of economic growth accompanied by a change in economic structure from agriculture-based economy to service and industry-based economy.
In the long run, he added the economic development must follow national and regional income growth to bring a fundamental change to the economic structure.(*)
