Bappenas To Issue Presidential Regulation On SDGs This Month

Yogyakarta (Antara Bali) - The National Development Planning Board (Bappenas)  has set schedule for the issuance of a presidential regulation on sustainable development goals (SDGs) this month.

"The schedule is that this month the presidential regulation on the goal of sustainable development  would be issued," Bambang Brodjonegoro, National Development Planning Minister/Head of Basppenas, said said on Thursday.  
    
The minister said after various preparatory steps including meetings with other related officials, he had submitted report of 15 years of implementation of Millennium  Development Goals (MDGs) in  Indonesia.

Bappenas also has started the first year implementation of SDGs  by taking into account  side event related to SDGs, he said in a statement read out by his deputy Gellwynn Jusuf at a seminar with theme "Bringing to Reality Sustainable Indonesia  2030 Through SDGs", at the campus of the state Gajah Mada University.

"And in 2017, we hope to prepare a road-map, to be followed with SDGs national action plan  and SDGs regional action plan, the minister said.

He said there are three main principles  in the implementation of  sustainable development goals covering fundamental aspects in the community life.

"The first principle is universality, which is implemented with the principles of democracy, respecting individual rights, peace  and partnership.

"The second is principle of integration to be implemented in integration  in all social dimensions, economy and inter related environment, and the third is the principle of  no-one left behind or an activity  implemented  by involving all stakeholders," the minister said.

Therefore, in principle, implementation of SDGs would consider the role of all stakeholders, together in reaching the targets with goals to improve the welfare of the people, he added.

Bambang said there are five challenges to be faced by Indonesia in carrying out the Millennium Developments Goals (MDGs).

The five challenges include wide gap in reaching MDGs, limited resources, MDGs indicators being not entirely integrated in the planning and budgeting system, incomplete data base for MDGs indicators and MDGs advocacy  and communication strategy that still need improvement, he said.

He said  Indonesia has carried out various policies, programs and activities to reach the MDGs targets.

Most of the MDGs targets have been achieved, but a number of agenda have yet to be achieved, he added. (WDY)
