Jakarta (Antara Bali) - A key operation at the New Priok Container Terminal (NPCT1), located in North Jakarta, is scheduled to be inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Tuesday morning.
NPCT1 is built on a plot of land measuring 32 hectares and has a capacity of 1.5 million twenty foot equivalent unit (TEUs) per year.
The terminal is 450 meters long and will be further lengthened to 850 meters at the end of this year.
Its current depth is 14 low water spring (LWS) meters and will be further dredged to 20 meters.
The new terminal is expected to serve container ships having capacity of 13 thousand to 15 thousand TEUs and weighing over 15 thousand DWT.
PT New Priok Container Terminal One, a subsidiary of IPC Group, will be the operator of the new terminal.
NPCTI is built in phase 1 of the New Priok Terminal construction, comprising three new container terminals and two product terminals.
Phase 2 of the New Priok Terminal Construction will be carried out after the operation of phase 1.
As a whole, the New Priok project comprises seven container terminals and two product terminals on 411 hectares of land.
Following the inauguration, there will a joint statement by the ministers of finance, maritime affairs and fisheries, and social affairs, as well as the national police chief, concerning ammonium nitrate in fishery product cases.
Last May, the government had carried out a trial operation of the NPCT1 with the arrival of the 18,000GRT MV Sinar Sumba Voy 400 of the Samudra Indonesia Shipping Line Ltd.
Representatives of Mitsui & Co Ltd, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha and PSA International Pte Ltd, who are partners of Indonesian Port Corporation (IPC) or PT Pelindo II in the operation of NPCT1, were present in the event. (WDY)
