Yogyakarta (Antara Bali) - A leading Indonesian economist urges for campaigns to adopt Pancasila economic system to prevent the country from being entrapped in capitalistic system of economy.
"Without economic democracy based on Pancasila, capitalism would arbitrarily control the country," Revrisond Baswir from the state university Gajah Mada here said.
Revrisond made the statement addressing the VII Pancasila Congress on commemorating the anniversary of the state philosophy here on Monday.
He said the values of Pancasila especially 'social justice for all Indonesians' could be applied in various aspects -- social, cultural, political and economic aspects.
For people , who want implementation of Pancasila would choose the economic concept based on democracy, he said.
"However, why it is so difficult for the people now to openly say the words of 'anti capitalism'," he said.
In an economic system based on Pancasila , prosperity is not only for individuals but prioritized for the whole people, he said.
"In that context, prosperity is achieved through the principle of togetherness," he said.
Meanwhile, the dean of the economic and business faculty of the Gajah Mada University Wihana Kirana Jaya said the economic development concept of Pancasila gives emphasis on the importance of the spirit of togetherness to build up the nation.
Wijaya said the government has to be present in democratic economy to provide concrete support for farmers, fishermen, cooperatives and and micro enterprises.
"The support could be in the forms of capital, improvement of competitiveness, right over land and in increasing working ethics," he said. (WDY)
